Video surveillance

The improved resolution at the edges of the image (compared to typical lenses with barrel distortion) allow lobby, office, and other spaces with limited ceiling height to be effectively monitored using Theia's ultra wide angle lens. There is no longer a need to install and maintain multiple cameras at great expense in these applications. A megapixel IP camera with Theia's wide angle lens can cover up to 135° field of view.

Several camera locations in typical retail stores can use Theia's ultra wide lens. Some examples are shown below. Most images were taken with a 5 megapixel IP camera. Click on the pictures to bring up the full resolution image.

A complete 24'x28' office space can be seen from 9' camera height. This image was taken with a 1.3 Megapixel camera	Large areas like warehouses can be effetivly monitored with a few 5 megapixel cameras. This reduces the installation cost of installing multiple cameras with less field of view and allows digital PTZ without reducing the recorded field of view of the camera. Overhead view of a row of checkout stands at a grocery store from 8' ceiling. From this low ceiling, multiple check stands can be monitored. The camera could be mounted above the check stands or in front of the cashier. In both locations, the cashier, customer, and bagger, in multiple lanes can be monitored.	Video surveillance of a large parking lot. This image was taken from the top of a 4 story building. With a 5 megapixel camera, people can be seen close to the far building, >500' away.
Many aisles in a retail store can be monitored simutaneously, reducing the visible presence of video cameras and reducing the anxiety of customers who don't like to see too many video cameras.	Monitoring a produce section or other area from a corner is possible with Theia's wide angle lens. The ultra wide field of view shows both walls (up to 135° field of view) and increased resolution at the edges of the image improve surveillance quality along each wall.
Large common areas of Universities, Collages, and Schools can be monitored with few cameras, saving on installation costs.	The ultra wide angle lens makes a good overview camera for mall parking lots. It can be used in combination with digital PTZ or another pan-tilt-zoom camera to zoom in on areas of interest.
